K-12 and Special Education

EducationDispute resolution plays an integral role in the field of education. For example, in both private and public-school settings, effective communications are essential to support the educational needs of our students, address a wide variety of issues with faculty, staff, parents and members of the community, and manage the critical programmatic and behavioral issues that arise on a daily basis. In addition, we are increasingly aware of the challenges posed for those who choose to serve as a member of a public or private school board – both in the oversight of a school’s or district’s financial and academic well-being, and communications with employees and external constituencies.

With regard to special education, federal statutes have long-established obligations related to the development of, and adherence to, the individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. Many states have established mediation systems to address disputes that arise between school districts and parents/guardians regarding the implementation and management of IEPs.

CCN principals have the experience and expertise to assist with the mediation of special education disputes, provide leadership and conflict coaching for all levels of decisional authority, and professional development regarding conflict resolution with employees and members of the community.
